Dr. Alexander Mandl,

One of the foremost violinists and conductors of Brazil, Dr. Alexander Mandl, maintains an active and diverse career as violinist, conductor, and educator.  A versatile musician, Mandl has performed in Europe, North and South America at renowned halls, including Alice Tully, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Carnegie Music Hall.  As a soloist and orchestra musician, he has collaborated with notable conductors, such as Eleazar de Carvalho, Gunther Herbig, Claudio Santoro, Lawrence Leighton Smith, Robert Shaw, Juan Pablo Izquierdo, Sidney Harth, and Krzysztof Penderecki, among others.  Most recently, he has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, Beloit-Janesville Symphony, University of Wisconsin-Madison Symphony, and Paraiba Symphony Orchestra. 

A dedicated and passionate chamber musician, Mandl has collaborated with eminent artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma, Jian Wang, Humberto Lucarelli, Erick Friedman, Sidney Harth, Nai-Yuan Hu, Aldo Parisot, Frank Morelli, João Carlos Martins, Amit Peled and Todd Levy.  He is a founding member of the Philomusica Quartet, Yale Piano Trio, and Quintessence Piano Quintet, which performs in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, with live broadcast on WFMT, Chicago. 

A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (B.F.A.), Yale University (M.M. and A.D.), and the University of Wisconsin (D.M.A.), Dr. Mandl has won several significant competitions as well as numerous honors and prizes, including the Andrew Carnegie Tradition Award, the Yale Alumni Award and the prestigious Ivan Galamian Award.  Dr. Mandl serves on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Wisconsin Lutheran College and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.  In addition to his academic posts, he is also the Concertmaster of the Kenosha Symphony and the Beloit-Janesville Symphony orchestras, Assistant Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Music Director/Conductor of the Lakeshore Youth Philharmonic, and Conductor of the Elm City ChamberFest orchestra.

In 2000, he recorded for CD Baby's Heavenly Lullabies dedicated to the orphans of 9/11, produced in New York City.  That same year, he recorded J.S. Bach's E major concerto with the UFPB Chamber Orchestra (Brazil) under the direction of maestro Sidney Harth.  He performs on a Petrus Guarnerius violin from 1705 and has recently edited Leopoldo Miguez's Violin Sonata Op. 14.

Mandl currently lives in Milwaukee with his wife Jeanyi Kim, Associate Concertmaster (Third Chair) of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

 

Ms. Diana Marie Iorio

Ms. Iorio earned her Bachelor of Music Degree and Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University, followed by post-graduate studies in Cologne, Germany.  She has performed in masterclasses for members of the Vermeer String Quartet, Madame Raya Garbousova, Hiroko Yajima, Sergiu Luca and Pinchas Zukerman.

As a private instructor, she manages a private studio, L'archet String Studio, and performs with her chanber music ensemble, Solaia.  Ms. Iorio is the music director and conductor of the Sinfonia string orchestra under the auspices of the Lakeshore Youth Philharmonic.  Regularly serving as a guest clinician in the Kenosha and Racine Unified School Districts, Ms. Iorio is also the violin, viola, and orchestral clinician at the Christian Life School in Kenosha, Wisconsin.  Active in cultural and performing arts programming, Ms. Iorio established "Music in the Wood: String Clinic in 2003 and continues to function as its Artistic Director as well as violin and chamber music instructor.  In 2005, she collaborated with violist and international recording artist, Paul Cortese, as part of Music in the Wood String Clinic and presented an arts forum for 450 string students held on the campus of Carthage College.

Ms. Iorio has served on the string faculty at the University of Wisconisin-Parkside, Carthage College, and the Senese Arts and Music Program in Siena, Italy.  She is an active member in the American String Teachers Association, Wisconsin String Teachers Association, and the Wisconsin School Music Association.  In 2006, she served on the WSMA staff as violin coach for the 2005/2006 Wisconsin Honor Orchestra.

Ms. Iorio has been the concertmaster of the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, Assistan concertmaster of the Arizona Opera Company, and member of the Elgin Symphony, Rockford Symphony, Illinois Chamber Symphony, Phoenix Chamber Orchestra, Phoenix Bach and Madrigal Society, and Musicisti Americani in Romer, Italy.  She has performed as chamber musician and soloist throughout Europe.  In 2005 and 2006, Ms. Iorio performed as chamber musician, principal second violin, concertmaster and soloist in Italy and Switzerland under the auspices of l'Universita' degli Studi of Siena, Italy.  In 2006, Diana was invited to be the Artistic Director and U.S. coordinator of Luci Toscane Music Festival , based in Siena, Italy.
